I’m glad to here that things went well in therapy today, but I’m really upset that Kyle bit that little boy today. Gina called me about an hour ago to tell me about it. Apparently she had tried to get hold of me earlier, but I’ve been busy all day (the hospital put me in the ER today!!). Gina said she talked to that little boy’s parents and they weren’t really upset (Thank God!). She told me that she told them that you were going to begin teaching the kids some signs so that Kyle’s aggressiveness may decrease and they thought that was a great idea. I wondered why you hadn’t mentioned that to me before, and then I checked my mail (I knew you wouldn’t leave me out in the cold!!). Anyway, I think your idea is wonderful and you’re right about it helping to alleviate some of the behaviors that Kyle has exhibited with his classmates. You’re also right about it helping to clean Kyle’s signing up a bit. Any extra practice will be a big help! Also, thanks for the suggestion on practicing at home with Kyle’s signing. We’ll all be focusing on that a little more. I just have one question about your idea, though. When will you do this because I know that you have quite the case load this semester and I know that Keri and Gina are both busy (with 24 1st graders and especially with Kyle…AAHHHH!!)? I’m all for it, except I don’t want it to be a burden on anyone, even though it would might decrease Kyle’s aggressiveness toward the other kids (Schopler. 1995). Also, maybe you should check with the other parents to make sure they are cool with it as well. Knowing you though, I’m sure you, Gina, and Keri are on top of that aspect as we speak. Let me know what you guys decide (just mail me back—I’m not going to be home until later on tonight and I’ll be able to know faster by checking my mail here). I can’t thank you enough, Heather.
